Gender inequality within the sports industry

Gender inequality within the sports industry is a prominent issue starting from a grassroots level going up to a professional standard with women often being in the minority and facing many problems. This expands further to the levels of engagement that children have in sport outside of the physical education curriculum in schools. Targeting these problems at a young age will help with the higher recognition of women in sport overall.

Sportal is a tracking app for all kids aged 5-11 to track their exercise engagement, compete with friends and earn rewards. With many adult tracking devices already on the market, it became apparent there was no version for kids. Sportal fits this gap, using a fun digital platform to encourage more young children into sports.

Sportal allows users to personalise their own avatar and track multiple sports, in turn, encouraging them to try new sports. Sportal can be used via both an Apple Watch and an app, allowing users to access a larger range of sports where a mobile phone cannot be used. Users can customise their straps and personalise watch face variations. On the Watch app, face variations are available as rewards for challenges completed.
