A recent survey revealed that over half of people felt no sense of community spirit, and 18 to 24-year-olds were least likely to feel a sense of belonging in their community. Figures show that people are engaging less with neighbours but more with social media. This has led to problems such as an increase in social isolation and loneliness which have been further exacerbated by the pandemic.
The pandemic has dramatically impacted upon communities, resulting in a greater feeling of disconnection. This increase led to a shift in behaviours in communities nationwide. People have come together in uncertain times, forming a tight-knit community feel. So how can design encourage the continuation of these acts of kindness and togetherness, not just in a time of crisis?
