My final major is focused on tackling the stigma around Autism Spectrum Disorders. Autism is a lot more common than people think, with just over one in 100 people in the UK with one form of autism alone. Despite this, many people do not know a lot about the disorder and this can often lead to autistic people being treated differently relating to behaviours they cannot control.
My solution is an animation alongside a series of cards for autistic people to use during sensory overload. The aim of the animation is to put people into the shoes of someone experiencing sensory overload to help raise awareness and promote better understanding. The aim of the cards is to provide autistic people with a tool that they can use in a situation where they may be unable to communicate. This can help to explain what is happening and will support them when they need help.
